More Site Updates
Written by Matthew Campbell
Tim Buckley with a cigar in his mouth possibly take in 1974 shortly before his death

** 10/11/2003 'Return of the Starsailor' bootlegs available

** 11/11/2003 'Schaeffer Music Festival' bootlegs available

** 13/11/2003 'Live at the Starwood / Blue Obsession' & 'Detroit Michigan' bootlegs available.

Making a total of 90 files available in the downloads area.

We also now have 32 registered users at the site.

2 further bootleg albums to come are 'Happy Mad' and a 1967 release which should be available by the end of the week.

A lot of new users are coming to the site from search engines and referred from Adrie Meijer's website. I just want to welcome those people who are coming through and I hope you all enjoy the site.

I have removed the poll... It looks like 'Blue Afternoon' won the people's popularity awards with 5 votes. The poll has been replaced with the 5 most recent uploads..Unfortunately, the layout of it doesn't really enable you to see so much about the file, but at least you will notice when it has changed.

Currently there are 90 available files to download, approximately 80 of them are MP3's and the rest are the artwork for the CD's. There are more to go, to add to the site. It is tedious work adding all the files, so please forgive me for taking so long. I have been adding 1 album a day :)

Next up, I have change the layout of the forums a little. Previously, the forum would accept 30 posts before it created a new page. Personally, I was sick of scrolling down so far to read the newest posts. Now when you look at the topics, you will notice pages numbers next to the titles. Click on the last page number to view the most recent post. I have made it 5 posts to a page, this might be too little and I would appreciate your feedback on this feature. I think 5-10 is reasonable.. more than that and you are always scrolling down the page to read the most recent post.

I have also added a module so that I can email all users when we add something special to the site, for example the latest release of MP3's that Adrie has received and any other special announcements. I have 2 ways of doing this. The first is to mass mail ALL USERS. I will probably then ask users to sign up for the newsletter. This way, those that do not want to receive the newsletter (special announcements), have the choice, rather than being sent an email they do not want. I would like to make this an option upon signing up but that will take a bit of time, so I can't do it just yet.

Martin had noticed me 'testing' a Flash MP3 player integrated into the site and let the cat out of the bag. I am going to monitor the bandwidth usage for a month or so. If we do not exceed our bandwidth limits, then I will implement this feature so that people can sample the MP3's before downloading or alternatively listen to the MP3's while they are visiting the website.

This is becoming a very long post now..most of all, I hope everyone enjoys Tim's music as much as I do. A special thank you to Adrie Meijer for his contributions to the website.

Much to my surprise Rhino released this great CD for normal distribution this month. Those who missed out on the limited edition should be able to order Works In Progress from their fave web-store or ol' fashioned record store shortly !!

The Monkees - Our Favorite Episodes (1966)
Written by Matthew Campbell
Tim Buckley sings song ot the siren on this episode of The Monkees I just read a review of "The Monkees - Our Favorite Episodes (1966)" and the author of the review quotes the following:

Mickey selected (and directed) the series finale, "Mijacogeo (The Frodis Caper)," which is noteworthy for a filmed performance of Tim Buckley singing a rare acoustic version of "Siren Song" (further proof that the Monkees were hipper than their TV personas).

So, if you want (possibly) a good quality version of Tim singing "Song to the Siren".. it looks like it might be available on DVD now.

Requests for Blue Afternoon and Starsailor
Written by Matthew Campbell

A suggestion has been put forward to show Rhino Records that there are users out there who are willing to purchase Blue Afternoon and Starsailor. We suggest that instead of requesting copies of these Recordings on forums, that everyone emails Rhino directly at drrhino@rhino.com to voice your request for a re-release to be made.

With the "Works in Progress" album, Rhino made 7500 copies, of which I am a proud owner of one of those copies. So I would imagine that Rhino would consider doing a run of both Starsailor and Blue Afternoon (possibly in a set) if there was enough interest shown, so please email them, and tell every genuinely interested Tim Buckley listener to also email them.

Another possibility could be asking them, what a minimum run they require to make some copies and then we place a bulk buy order. I am a member of another user group that uses this method to buy electronics at wholesale prices where they would normally not even be able to obtain those parts. Obviously, our site here does not attract enough users to generate the bulk buy scenario but maybe if the numerous Tim Buckley groups like "Tim Buckley and Friends", "Starsailor" etc grouped together, we might be able to get a large enough group buy to encourage Rhino to run a batch of them. If you have other suggestions, please email them to me using the contact us link
