Getting the Word Out On Tim 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago

I remember in my long-ago days of my initial Buckley obsession, when I would quiz 1960s survivors about this amazing talent I had "discovered" and listened to with such zeal and passion. But telling my friends and letting them hear samples of Tim's music was a daunting chalenge. No one was interested! Even musican friends of mine with well-developed palettes and brains couldn't get into him. People who worked in the "hip" used book and record store hated Tim's music with the same passion as I loved it! Only my then-girlfriend (now wife) "got it", and even she can't get into anything post-Blue Afternoon! I did have one triumph, though, my close friend finally got into Tim a year or so after I did, and only after I showed him my videotape of him in action. I later got this friend into Nick Drake, who became my friend's favorite musician of all time.
So the question is, who have you turned on to Tim Buckley's music?

My cousin, but that's about it. I have the same trouble in trying to introduce people to Tim Buckley, my closest friends just switch off. Some even find his voice annoying, which is hard to fathom.

I've had exactly the same response. I don't bother now. These days I spend most of my time with world music - Ali Farkar Toure(africa), Cesaria Evora (Cape verde), Anouar Brahem (tunisia), Orchestra Boabab (Senegal), Rokia Traore (Mali), Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Pakistan), Susana Baca (Afro-peruvian), Fela Kuti (Nigeria), Tinariwen (North Africa)
And I generally think people find it more accessible than Tim. My wife, who generally took a disliking to Tim, actually likes "Look at the Fool", especially Peanut Man, which is funny because apparently it was Judy Buckley's choice.
Lance Buckley, you said you've had the Boboquivari video for 16 years and you're 17 right? That's pretty good going. I think you also said your Dad has Rodriguez. Did you know he is virtually unknown outside Australia and South Africa? I'm from Sydney, never been to Adelaid but was STRONGLY considering trying to get down there for Womadelaide, mostly to see Cesaria Evora but work commitments held me back.
From the photo in your profile, you seem to look a lot like Tim actually.

I never said I had the Boboquivari video, that was Kind_Of_Blue. I mentioned that Rodriguez was on a soundtrack I bought for the movie Candy, where I discovered Tim Buckley, and the only time I mentioned my dad was because he introduced me to Jeff Buckley and I found a compilation of Tim Buckley in his CD collection.
You really mixed my story up, dude. =P
As for the looking like Tim Buckley... I wouldn't know about that. I play folk music by trade, and have attempted the avant-garde soundscape here and there. I've been training my voice for a couple of years now, though, and I think I can sing pretty well. I have hundreds of recordings of Tim Buckley songs. A lot of takes of different songs though. Tim is just magic to me.

I should have looked harder for similar topics regarding this, as I now see that Salubrium already tackled this issue some time ago.
